WastedBrains Why WastedBrains?
Engaged

It was a cold night…

Erin arrived home late from work on a Friday, (which is her usual Friday evening ruse). I told her that I had originally planned to tell her, “the bathroom is all yours, get ready for dinner; we have reservations.” Since she was so late, instead, I needed to say, “you look lovely in your work outfit, let’s go out to dinner; we have reservations.” Erin decided that she could take the world’s fastest shower and get ready in a jiff. To her credit, I think she got ready faster than I have ever seen, and even topped it off with a touch of makeup.

Prior to her arrival, I did the dishes, fed the dog, walked the dog, and tidied up around the apartment so that Erin would have nothing to stress about when she arrived home. After her speedy shower and change. We were out the door only about 10 minutes late for our dinner reservations.

We went to dinner at Bistro Cacao, which has been a favorite of ours since we found it in DC. We were last there about a year ago for our 4 year (dating) anniversary. The food and drink were wonderful as always, the new menu had a number of items we wanted to try. We will have to return soon to try a few additional things.

At the end of the meal, I knew things would be a little awkward as I told Erin to follow me, opposed to starting to walk home. She asked where we were going, I said I would take care of it. Since it was frigid outside walking around DC didn’t make much sense, but I wanted to do this outside. As we walked passed the few bars in this direction Erin started to realize we weren’t going for after dinner drinks. I also made a wrong turn and wasn’t headed directly to the Capitol the way I was planning (Erin claims I was lost). We see the Capitol a block away and start heading straight for it between various government office buildings, at this point, I think Erin knew something was up.

I had prepared some words, thoughts to share, and as we approached the center of the Capitol grounds, I began to say them. I took off my ski coat, because no one can look good in a ski coat. I threw it and our leftovers from dinner down onto a pile of snow. I pulled out the ring and got down on one knee and proposed.

So our journey of me chasing Erin around the world has reach a new beginning. Now where ever she goes, I expect that she will at least plan on me being there. Knowing I will be with her on the journey will hopefully encourage her to plan her trips in a way that avoids 7 hour long bus rides through developing countries…

Erin’s post about this, Engaged!

Wow philosophical 4chan

“every time you victimize someone.” I said, “you were victimizing yourself. Every act of kindness you’ve done, you’ve done to yourself. Every happy and sad moment ever experience by any human was, or will be, experience by you.”

Woot done with HR stuff for new job!

All set up with health, dental, life, 401K, etc… So nice to have all that taken care of. Now if I could just figure out how/why I can’t get the metro card money added by my employer? I guess that is a task for monday. Happy to be canceling my old crappy health insurance, etc.
